The key to n8n’s AI is the **AI Agent node**. Picture it as the brain of your workflow. Unlike regular nodes that just do one job (like sending an email), an AI agent can think, make choices, and even understand what you’re asking. It’s like having a smart assistant built into your automation.

n8n makes it easy to add AI to your automations, and it’s not just a gimmick — it’s built into the platform. This means you can take the workflows we talked about in Lesson 1 (like those dominoes falling in order) and make them smarter by adding decision-making.

## Focusing on AI Agents

Today, we will be focusing on **AI agents** because I think they’re the most fun and easiest way to get started with AI in n8n. An AI agent is like a smart helper in your workflow. It can understand what you want, make decisions, and take actions, unlike regular nodes that just follow a set path.

For example, imagine a workflow where you send a message like “List my tasks.” An AI agent can read that, figure out what you mean, and pull the task list from a tool like Linear.
